The Writing Process

As I am sitting here on election night, writing an article, agonizing over every word, and not feeling too good, I realized writing is strangley the same as throwing up. You start out knowing that you are going to just let it all fly, and it comes, but in spurts, sometimes chunky, it is often really disgusting and you have to flush to get rid of the vile word constructions. At the end of the heaving, you finally have a mess of words that may or may not resemble what you ate, or intended to say. At last, you flush it all away to the sewer, more commonly known as the dreaded editors. What a beautiful process. Yes indeed. Goodluck with your story writing, remember to flush often my friends. What looks good to me may not look so good to you!!

Very true, Storee. The famous sports writer/philosopher Red Smith tapped a different bodily function: "There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein." But it's the same idea.

The other thing you learn eventually, to your astonishment, is that you really can do this, and that even when you think it's all upchuck as you hit -send-, when you see it again, it's not so bad.

Kepp at it!
